Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh was given rousing reception on reaching Gandhi Chowk at Hamirpur today. He was here to preside over the Annual function of Sarv Kalyankari Sanstha, an NGO headed by former MLA Shri Rajinder Rana, who is also the Chairman of the Sanstha.

The Chief Minister said that need of the hour was to follow the path of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed that politics was incomplete without service to mankind and helping poor. He said that path to politics was through service to humanity. He said that since 1962 he was in Politics and had devoted 53 years in ethical politics. He praised former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajapayee for his statesmanship and principled politics and said that the standard of Politics had gone to lowest ebb now-a-days.

He said that there should be decorum in assemblies and making remarks and shouting slogans in assembly was a new practice by the present opposition. He said that former Chief Minister, Shri Prem Kumar Dhumal had changed the ethical values in assembly and advised the BJP leaders to refrain from such activities.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the raid on the residence of sitting Chief Minister was a blot in political history of the State initiated by BJP leaders in unison with the Central leaders on the day of marriage of his daughter.

“I need not to worry of any raid or enquiry as my income tax returns was at various stages with Income Tax tribunal and in Delhi High court”, he said.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that the infamous Compact Disc (CD) case had exposed the intention of BJP leaders and the Supreme Court of India gave him clean chit.

The Chief Minister said that he was not against HPCA, but HPCA should get it registered under the co-operative act and should function democratically with voting rights and members from the State itself.  He said that the dirty blame game started by Dhumals was not in better interest of the State and the welfare of people. “I won’t allow the property of the State to be misused till I am alive and it is because of this the Dhumals were uncomfortable and were trying to oust me from politics,” he said.

The Chief Minister also distributed Hamir Gaurav and Shane-Himachal awards to those who dedicated themselves in service of mankind and for excelling in various activities including sports and academics.

He assured of Wi-Fi facility in Hamirpur town, assured for Youth hostel at appropriate place and directed to locate appropriate land.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Shri I. D. Lakhanpal while speaking on the occasion congratulated the members of the Sarv Kalyankari Sanstha for organising such a function which would motivate others for carrying out social service and excel themselves in different fields. He lashed out at the opposition for its cheap tactics against the Chief Minister.

State Youth Congress President, Shri Vikramaditya Singh congratulated Shri Rajinder Rana for the function and lauded the efforts of his NGO for its social and noble cause for the society.  He said that there were many people in the State who were working for upliftment of society and said that it would be considered to set up similar organization at the State level.

He suggested the youth workers of Congress party to work more dedicatedly in the field and listen to the grievances of the people and maintain liaison with everyone. He exhorted for strengthening the youth power in the state  and said though he respects Shri Dhumal but the tactics he resorted by uniting with the central leaders to get CBI raids conducted at Chief Minister’s residence, was uncalled for. He said that congress would always bring truth before the people and would be triumphed at last.

Shri Rajinder Rana, Chairman, Sarv Kalyankari Sanstha,  and vice-chairman of State Disaster Management Authority accorded warm welcome to the Chief Minister and honoured him. On the occasion, Shri Rana listed the activities of the Sanstha and said that today there were 25000 volunteers associated with his NGO.  He said that the organisation every year honour the social workers and award them with Hamir Gaurav and Shane-Himachal Awards. He said that the Sanstha also had its units working selflessly in service of mankind in other States too.

Shri Rana hinted at Central leaders, who on the instigation of State BJP leaders were trying hard to oust the State government. He said that every time when such attempts were made against Shri Virbhadra Singh, he always emerged stronger as ever before. He said that it was an attempt to implicate such a person in false charges, who was known as ‘Man of Masses’

He demanded setting up sports hostel in Hamirpur besides other demands.

MLA, Shri Sanjay Rattan, Vice-Chairman State Forest Corporation, Shri Kewal Singh Pathania and Shri Abhishekh Rana, President of Yuva Sampark, a youth wing of Sarv Kalyankari Sanstha and son of Rajinder Rana  also spoke on the occasion.

Those who got Himachal Gaurav Awards by the Chief Minister are Kumari Alka Rathour (Gowardoo) for representing the State in Basket Ball, Ms.  Mukti (Bhijri) for excelling in various State level sports events, Vijay Kumar (Jol Sappar) in the field of Yog and Science,  Rahul Kharyal (Charot),  for  Judo and launching environment campaigns in the district, Parav Thakur (Ward No1) for excelling in field of Science in School in the district , Arav Thakur (Bharnang) in Karate  Shivani Sandal (Kakkar) for sports.

Those who were honoured by  Shane Himachal Awards by the Chief Minister are Kuldeep Singh Guleria, educationist,  (Gharyo) , Navneet Sharma, Editor Dainik Jagran  for Media and Literature, Rohit Chauhan, in athletics (Kot), Jouni Chaudhary, Wrestling (Jaral), Ms Sneh Lata, in sports ( GSSS Navagaon), Ms Indu in education,(Taunidevi), Dheeraj Sharma in Music (Baijnath, Kangra), Dr. Dinesh Pathak, science,(Bhaleth), Naveen Gautam, Information and Technology (Pandher) and Sudesh Kumar for Bravery from village Jol, (Bir Baghera).

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Burn Unit of Zonal Hospital, Hamirpur completed with an outlay of Rs. 98 lakh.

Chairman Pollution Control Board, Shri Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman, KCCB, Shri Jagdish Sapehiya, Vice-Chairman KCCB, Shri Kuldeep Pathania, Chairman APMC, Hamirpur, Shri Prem Kaushal, Chairman, Employees Welfare Board, Shri Surinder Mankotia,  Ex-MLA, Smt. Urmil Thakur,   representatives and senior members of Sarv Kalyankari Sabha, were also present on the occasion amongst others.
