Parliament Remains Disrupted on Seventh Day of Budget Session
The deadlock in Parliament continued on Thursday, the seventh day of the Budget Session, with disruptions forcing the Lok Sabha to be adjourned shortly after it convened. Speaker Om Birla expressed strong displeasure over the continued chaos and said maintaining decorum in the House was a collective responsibility.
Citing the prevailing disorder, the Speaker adjourned the Lok Sabha proceedings until 12 noon, stating that it was not possible to conduct business amid persistent disruptions.
⚖️ Dispute Over MP Suspensions and Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks
The standoff between the ruling alliance and the opposition centers around the suspension of eight MPs and allegations that statements by Rahul Gandhi were not allowed to be placed on record.
Opposition parties have accused the government of curbing their right to speak on critical national issues, while the treasury benches have rejected these claims.
🏛️ Rajya Sabha Also Witnesses Uproar
Following disruptions in the Lok Sabha, similar scenes unfolded in the Rajya Sabha. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi allegedly being prevented from speaking and sought discussion on matters of national security.
However, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan and Leader of the House J P Nadda ruled that Lok Sabha proceedings cannot be debated in the Upper House. They advised Kharge to engage with Rahul Gandhi and party leaders if smooth functioning of the Lok Sabha was desired.
📣 Opposition to Raise Rahul Gandhi Issue in Rajya Sabha
Despite the ruling, opposition parties are expected to raise the Rahul Gandhi issue again in the Rajya Sabha later in the day, escalating tensions between the two sides.
🤝 Opposition Discusses Floor Strategy
Opposition MPs held a strategy meeting at the office of Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss their floor plan for Parliament. Rahul Gandhi was also present at the meeting, signaling coordinated opposition action during ongoing proceedings.
🗣️ PM Modi May Respond in Rajya Sabha Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address on Wednesday, but repeated disruptions led to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha.
With discussions continuing in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, PM Modi is likely to respond during the Upper House proceedings.
