Story

Every killer leaves behind clues—but in Mrs. Deshpande, the murderer openly claims responsibility. The series revolves around a serial killer terrorizing Mumbai, strangling victims using the same method. The story begins with the murder of actor Virat Malhotra, drawing Police Commissioner Arun Khatri into a chilling investigation.

Suspicion quickly turns toward Seema Deshpande, also known as Zeenat, a convicted serial killer imprisoned in Hyderabad for the past 25 years after murdering eight people in Pune using the same modus operandi. When Zeenat learns about the Mumbai killings, she offers to help the police. She is secretly moved to a secure location, and ACP Tejas is assigned to crack the case.

Is Mrs. Deshpande truly behind the murders, or is someone else recreating her crimes? The answer unfolds through relentless twists that keep viewers guessing until the very end.

Performances

Madhuri Dixit delivers one of the most striking performances of her career. Far removed from her familiar graceful and romantic roles, she embraces a layered, grey-shaded character with chilling confidence. At no point does she feel performative—she becomes Zeenat.

Priyanshu Chatterjee, as the police commissioner, delivers a steady but understated performance. Siddharth Chandekar, however, emerges as the surprise package. His portrayal of ACP Tejas—a conflicted yet determined officer juggling duty and family—adds emotional depth to the series.

Supporting actors Deeksha Juneja and Nimisha Nair put in sincere efforts, though their performances could have benefitted from more nuance.

Direction

Nagesh Kukunoor’s direction is precise and immersive. Each episode opens with a flashback, instantly pulling viewers into the narrative. The pacing, screenplay, and atmospheric tension are handled with care, making the series binge-worthy without feeling rushed.

Weak Points

The series takes time to fully engage, especially in the first couple of episodes where multiple characters are introduced. A few scenes may feel disconnected initially, but patience pays off as the narrative tightens.

Final Verdict: Watch or Skip?

With a strong storyline, sharp direction, and standout performances—especially by Madhuri Dixit—Mrs Deshpande is a solid pick for fans of crime, suspense, and mystery. If you’re looking for quality OTT content that keeps you hooked, this series is well worth your time.
