Lok Sabha Adjourned Over Ambedkar Remarks, Protests Disrupt Parliament

Winter Session of Parliament 2024 Updates: The proceedings of the Lok Sabha have been indefinitely adjourned, while uproar continues in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition alliance members staged a relentless protest in the Rajya Sabha, condemning remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The disruption led to the Lok Sabha’s suspension of proceedings for an indefinite period. Similarly, in the Rajya Sabha, chaos ensued over the Ambedkar issue, forcing the session to adjourn until noon.

From the moment Parliament convened, turmoil gripped the sessions, escalating tensions and culminating in the indefinite adjournment of the Lok Sabha. The Ambedkar debate sparked intense clashes on Friday as well, underscoring the contentious nature of the issue.

Adding to the heated atmosphere, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal proposed referring two bills to a joint committee on Friday’s agenda. This committee is to comprise 27 Lok Sabha members and 12 Rajya Sabha members. Amid the uproar, Congress MP Manickam Tagore submitted a suspension motion notice in the Lok Sabha, demanding an apology and resignation from Amit Shah over his comments on Dr. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha. Similarly, Congress MP K. Suresh issued a suspension motion notice on the same grounds.

Meanwhile, NDA MPs countered with a protest in the Parliament complex, accusing the Congress of insulting Dr. Ambedkar. The situation escalated further when Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined INDIA alliance MPs in demonstrating against Amit Shah’s remarks, amplifying the opposition’s demands and intensifying the political standoff.
