Beirut, Lebanon — April 9, 2026

Israeli military operations in Lebanon have intensified despite the ongoing ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with officials confirming that the truce does not apply to Lebanon.

On April 8, Israeli forces carried out one of the largest waves of strikes, targeting more than 100 positions linked to Hezbollah, including sites in the capital Beirut and the southern city of Tyre.

Casualties and Displacement Rise Sharply

According to Lebanon’s health authorities, at least 300 people have been killed and around 900 injured in the latest escalation.

Since March, the conflict has resulted in more than 1,500 deaths—including 129 children—and displaced over 1.1 million people across the country, creating a growing humanitarian crisis.

Israel: Operations Will Continue

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the military campaign is “fully coordinated” and will continue despite calls for broader ceasefire arrangements.

Israel has maintained that its operations are focused on neutralizing threats and will not be halted under the current ceasefire framework.

Ceasefire Does Not Cover Lebanon

The United States-Iran ceasefire agreement applies only to direct hostilities between those two nations and does not extend to Lebanon or other regional conflicts.

This distinction has allowed Israeli operations to continue, even as diplomatic efforts attempt to stabilize the broader region.

Global Calls for Wider Ceasefire

Pakistan and other nations have called for an expanded ceasefire covering all areas of conflict. However, Israel has rejected these calls, emphasizing its security priorities.

Humanitarian Concerns Grow

The ongoing strikes have led to widespread destruction of infrastructure, including residential areas, raising concerns among international observers about the humanitarian impact.

Thousands of displaced civilians are seeking shelter, while aid agencies warn of worsening conditions if hostilities continue.

Regional Tensions Remain High

Despite limited diplomatic progress elsewhere, the situation in Lebanon highlights the fragility of current ceasefire efforts. Analysts warn that continued escalation could further destabilize the region and complicate broader peace negotiations.
