Iran Prepared for Prolonged Conflict, Says Representative of Supreme Leader
Amid rising tensions in West Asia, Abdul Majid Hakim Ilahi, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in India, said Tehran is prepared to defend its sovereignty even if a prolonged conflict becomes necessary.
Speaking about the ongoing tensions, Ilahi stated that Iran had not initiated the conflict, but would not hesitate to defend its territory and national dignity. He also rejected the idea of Iran yielding to pressure from the United States.
According to Ilahi, Iran would be willing to continue the conflict for several years if required, emphasizing that the country is determined to protect its land and sovereignty.
Iran Targeted Gulf Bases Used Against Tehran, Says Envoy
Ilahi described the targeting of certain locations in Gulf countries as a defensive step taken by Iran.
He claimed that American-backed military facilities in the region were being used against Tehran, prompting Iran to respond. According to him, the United States has established between 33 and 45 military bases around Iran.
Tehran had earlier requested neighboring countries not to allow their territories to be used for attacks against Iran, he said, adding that the strikes continued despite those concerns.
Iran Rejects Claims of Talks With Washington
Ilahi also dismissed claims that Iran had expressed readiness to negotiate with Washington during the escalating conflict.
Responding to remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump, he said Iran has no intention of engaging in negotiations with the United States at this stage.
“Iran will not surrender its land,” Ilahi said, adding that past experiences with negotiations had led to distrust after alleged attacks during earlier discussions.
Energy Crisis Affecting People in the Region
Ilahi acknowledged that the ongoing tensions in West Asia have led to energy supply disruptions, affecting the availability of gas, fuel, and oil in some areas.
He said Iran was aware that ordinary people were facing difficulties due to the energy situation, but stressed that the country had to prioritize its security and defense.
He also called on global leaders to pressure the United States to help stop the conflict.
Iran Seeks Stronger Relations With India
Speaking about India–Iran relations, Ilahi said Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had expressed interest in strengthening ties with India.
According to Ilahi, Khamenei admired the honesty, loyalty, and intellect of the Indian people and supported deeper cooperation between the two countries.
He emphasized that Iran does not seek any conflict or tension with India and hopes that bilateral relations between the two nations will continue to grow stronger.
Khamenei Reportedly Refused to Move to Bunker
Ilahi also shared details about the personal stance of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during periods of tension.
He said that despite security concerns, Khamenei declined suggestions from advisers and security officials to move to a bunker or safer location.
According to Ilahi, the Supreme Leader believed he would only leave his residence if adequate shelter could be provided for Tehran’s approximately 19 million residents as well.
Outlook
The statements come at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to draw global attention, with international observers closely watching developments that could influence regional security and global energy markets.
