Iran has been accused of carrying out drone strikes targeting key infrastructure in Kuwait, including the country’s Finance Ministry building and an oil refinery, as regional tensions continue to escalate.
According to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the drone attack caused significant damage to the Finance Ministry building. Authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.
Finance Ministry Hit, Staff Shifted to Remote Work
Following the strike, officials instructed ministry employees to work from home as a precautionary measure after the building sustained heavy structural damage.
Emergency response teams were deployed to secure the area and assess the full extent of the damage.
Refinery Fire in Shuwaikh District
In a separate but possibly related incident, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Shuwaikh district. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, though authorities are still evaluating the damage.
The refinery fire has raised fresh concerns about the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure in the Gulf region.
Earlier Attack on Kuwait Airport
The latest developments follow an earlier drone strike earlier this week targeting Kuwait International Airport. That attack resulted in fires at fuel storage tanks, disrupting operations and heightening security concerns.
Broader Regional Context
The incidents come amid heightened geopolitical tensions following military strikes carried out on February 28 by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran.
In response, Iran has reportedly conducted retaliatory actions against Israeli-linked sites and U.S. military installations across West Asia, contributing to a widening regional conflict that now appears to be affecting neighboring countries.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities in Kuwait have not officially confirmed responsibility for the attacks, and investigations are ongoing. Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation as fears grow over further escalation.
