Lucknow Super Giants have received a significant boost in their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign, with Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis set to rejoin the squad for the final phase of the tournament.
The 31-year-old, who was signed for ₹8.6 crore at the auction, missed the first half of the season due to personal commitments, including his wedding on April 18. He is now expected to be available for the last six league matches, starting with a key clash against Mumbai Indians on May 4.
📉 LSG Struggling in Current Season
Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG have endured a difficult campaign so far:
- Matches Played: 6
- Wins: 2
- Position: 9th on the table
The team is currently on a three-match losing streak, including a heavy defeat to Punjab Kings, raising concerns over their playoff chances.
🔍 Batting Inconsistency a Key Concern
LSG’s batting lineup has struggled to deliver consistently despite featuring big names like:
- Mitchell Marsh
- Aiden Markram
- Nicholas Pooran
Pooran, in particular, has managed just 51 runs at a low strike rate, highlighting the team’s lack of firepower in crucial moments.
🔥 Inglis Expected to Add Firepower
Josh Inglis’ return is expected to strengthen the middle order, thanks to his aggressive batting style and ability to accelerate the scoring rate.
In the previous season (IPL 2025), Inglis impressed with Punjab Kings, scoring:
- 278 runs
- Strike Rate: 162.57
- Highlight: One century
His presence could also allow LSG to better utilize their overseas combination, having previously underused a fourth foreign player slot.
⚠️ Injury Setback Adds Pressure
LSG’s challenges have been compounded by the loss of South African pacer Anrich Nortje, who played just one match before being ruled out.
📅 Crucial Fixtures Ahead
LSG will next face Rajasthan Royals on April 22 at home, followed by a must-win phase of matches.
With the playoff race tightening, Inglis’ return could prove decisive in reviving LSG’s campaign.
