India Weather Forecast for January 6, 2026
Weather conditions across India are expected to vary sharply on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. While North India continues to reel under intense cold wave conditions and dense fog, parts of South India may witness light to moderate rainfall, according to prevailing weather patterns.
North India: Cold Wave and Dense Fog
Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Rajasthan are likely to remain under the grip of a severe cold wave. Morning hours may see dense to very dense fog, reducing visibility to below 50 meters at several locations.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature is expected to range between 4°C and 6°C, while the maximum may touch around 18°C. Due to foggy conditions, delays are likely in flight and train operations, particularly during early morning hours.
Hill States: Snowfall Alert
Higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Manali, and Badrinath, may experience light to moderate snowfall. Lower regions will continue to face cold wave conditions.
Authorities have advised caution as frost formation could make roads slippery, increasing the risk of travel disruptions in hilly areas.
Central and Western India
Parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan may see a drop of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures, intensifying winter conditions.
In contrast, Mumbai and coastal Gujarat are expected to enjoy pleasant and stable weather, with minimum temperatures hovering between 18°C and 20°C under mostly clear skies.
South and Northeast India
Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala may receive light to moderate rainfall, influenced by the lingering northeast monsoon.
In the Northeastern states—including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh—morning fog is likely, followed by generally dry weather during the day.
Air Quality Update
Air quality in Delhi and surrounding regions is expected to remain in the “Very Poor” category. Low temperatures and weak wind conditions may cause pollutants to remain trapped near the surface.
Advisory
Residents are advised to take precautions against cold-related health issues and check official IMD updates for real-time weather alerts, travel advisories, and visibility conditions.
