Ghooskhor Pandat Row: FIR and FMC Notice

Lucknow, India — February 6, 2026

The controversy surrounding Netflix’s upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat has intensified, with its impact now reaching Uttar Pradesh’s capital. After Mumbai and Bhopal, a police case has been registered in Lucknow against the film’s makers, while a leading industry body has also issued a formal notice objecting to the film’s title.

The film stars Manoj Bajpayee and is scheduled for release on Netflix.

FIR Registered at Hazratganj Police Station

An FIR has been lodged at Hazratganj Police Station against the film’s director and production team. The complaint alleges that the title Ghooskhor Pandat hurts religious and caste sentiments and has the potential to disturb social harmony.

The Lucknow Police Commissionerate stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy toward any act that may incite communal tension or disrupt public order, and strict action will be taken if violations are found.

FMC Issues Notice Over “Unauthorized Title”

Meanwhile, Mumbai-based industry body Film Makers Combine (FMC) has sent a legal notice to the film’s producers, objecting to the use of the title.

In its notice, FMC stated that according to official records, the makers—who are members of IMPA—did not apply for or receive approval for the title Ghooskhor Pandat. As per the organization’s rules and regulations, the use of an unauthorized and unregistered title is not permitted.

The FMC has sought an immediate response from the producers and warned that disciplinary action could follow if the matter is not resolved.

Netflix Also Asked to Stop Using the Title

The controversy has also drawn Netflix into the dispute. FMC has issued a separate notice to the streaming platform, stating that the film—produced by Neeraj Pandey under Friday Storytellers LLP—is being released without proper title approval from any recognized producers’ association.

The notice emphasized that unauthorized use of a film title is illegal under industry regulations and formally requested Netflix to refrain from using the disputed title for the release.

What Lies Ahead

With FIRs registered in multiple cities and objections raised by an industry body, the controversy surrounding Ghooskhor Pandat continues to deepen. The makers are yet to issue an official response to the latest developments.
