Gangotri Temple Updates Darshan Timings Ahead of Pilgrimage Season

The management of Gangotri Temple has announced revised darshan timings along with new administrative measures for the upcoming pilgrimage season. The decision was taken during the annual meeting of the temple committee and local priests, aiming to enhance the overall experience for visiting devotees.

⏰ New Darshan Timings Announced

According to the temple committee, devotees can now visit the shrine during the following hours:

  • Morning Darshan: 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Evening Aarti: Around 7:45 PM
  • Night Darshan: After aarti until 10:00 PM

Earlier, darshan was limited until early afternoon, with extended closure periods. The revised schedule is expected to provide more flexibility for pilgrims.

🧾 Key Decisions Taken in Annual Meeting

The updated timings were finalized during a meeting held at the Gangotri Dharamshala, where members of the temple committee and pilgrimage priests discussed operational arrangements, including finances and staffing for the year.

Suresh Semwal confirmed that the extension of darshan hours was approved unanimously to better manage pilgrim flow and reduce inconvenience caused by earlier time restrictions.

🌅 Evening Aarti and Extended Access for Devotees

Under the new system, the temple will reopen after the evening aarti, allowing devotees to continue darshan until late evening.

This change is also intended to encourage pilgrims to spend more time at the site, participate in rituals along the ghats, and attend the evening aarti ceremonies.

📵 New Rules: Restrictions on Mobile Phones and Live Streaming

The temple committee has also introduced stricter regulations within the premises:

  • Mobile phones will not be permitted for priests, staff, or others inside the temple
  • Live streaming or broadcasting of darshan from inside the temple will not be allowed

According to Satendra Semwal, these measures aim to maintain the sanctity of the temple and ensure a focused spiritual environment for visitors.

📊 Purpose Behind the Changes

Officials stated that the revised timings and new rules are designed to:

  • Improve crowd management
  • Enhance the spiritual experience
  • Encourage longer pilgrim stays
  • Facilitate participation in multiple rituals and temple activities

🧭 What Devotees Should Know

Visitors planning to attend the Char Dham Yatra are advised to follow the updated schedule and adhere to temple guidelines for a smooth experience.
