New Delhi, India — March 30, 2026

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Monday, forecasting rain, gusty winds, and possible thunderstorms that are expected to bring relief from rising temperatures.

According to IMD officials, a fresh western disturbance is becoming active over northwest India, which could lead to scattered rainfall across different parts of the national capital. The changing weather pattern is likely to bring down temperatures and improve overall comfort levels.

Rain and Thunderstorms Likely Through March 31

Weather experts predict that light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning may continue through March 31, with cloudy skies dominating the region.

While Sunday saw intense sunshine and heat, no rainfall was recorded despite earlier alerts. The city registered a maximum temperature of 36.2°C and a minimum of 19.8°C, with humidity levels ranging between 33% and 83%.

IMD officials attribute the unusual March weather to a series of western disturbances affecting northwest India.

Temperature Trends This Week

  • March 31: 29°C – 31°C
  • April 1: 31°C – 33°C (No rain expected)
  • April 2: 32°C – 34°C (Partly cloudy)
  • April 3–4: Rain and thunderstorms likely again

Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 20–25 km/h during upcoming rain spells, further enhancing the cooling effect.

More Rain Expected on April 3–4

The IMD has forecast another round of light showers and thunderstorms on April 3 and 4, which could once again make the weather pleasant across Delhi-NCR.

Despite fluctuations, the maximum temperature is expected to remain below 34°C through early April.

Air Quality Near ‘Poor’ Category

Delhi’s air quality has deteriorated due to slow wind speeds, pushing pollution levels close to the ‘poor’ category.

  • Delhi AQI: 198 (Moderate)
  • Greater Noida: 260 (Poor)
  • Gurugram: 230
  • Ghaziabad: 229
  • Noida: 204
  • Faridabad: 172 (Moderate)

Particulate matter levels recorded at 3 PM:

  • PM10: 204.7 µg/m³
  • PM2.5: 82.3 µg/m³

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) forecasts that air quality may remain in the moderate range until midweek.

What Residents Should Expect

  • Sudden rain and gusty winds
  • Temporary drop in temperature
  • Possible travel disruptions during storms
  • Slight improvement in heat conditions

Residents are advised to stay cautious during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel during strong winds, and keep track of real-time weather updates.
