Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a seminar in Sydney, describing him as an “extraordinary leader” and highlighting India’s progress in digital transformation and governance reforms.
Speaking at the event in Sydney, Australia, Carney reflected on his interactions with Modi and emphasized the Indian leader’s dedication and work ethic over the past decades.
Carney Praises Modi’s Commitment
During his remarks, Carney said that Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to public service has been remarkable, noting that the leader has worked continuously for more than 25 years without taking a day off.
Carney pointed out that Modi maintained the same dedication during his time as Chief Minister of Gujarat and later as Prime Minister of India.
He also referred to Modi’s extensive public outreach efforts, mentioning that the Indian leader frequently travels across the country for public engagements and election campaigns that attract large crowds of supporters.

According to Carney, Modi’s governance approach focuses strongly on addressing the needs of rural communities and ordinary citizens.
He said the Indian government has prioritized delivering the benefits of government programs directly to people, ensuring that welfare schemes reach intended beneficiaries efficiently.
UPI and Digital Payments Receive Praise
Carney also highlighted India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a major technological achievement.
He said the digital payment system developed under Modi’s leadership has created a platform that enables direct and transparent financial transactions without intermediaries.
According to Carney, the system has helped connect millions of people to the formal economy, enabling faster and more accessible financial services across the country.
India-Canada Relations and Cooperation
Carney’s comments come after his recent visit to India aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
