Crackdown on Substandard Goods: Over ₹70 Lakh Worth of Electricals and Footwear Confiscated

New Delhi, March 2025 – In a major crackdown on substandard and non-certified products, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has conducted raids on warehouses of e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart, seizing thousands of products lacking proper quality certification. The nationwide enforcement drive aims to protect consumers from unsafe and non-compliant goods.


BIS Raid on Amazon Warehouse in Delhi

📌 Location: Amazon Sellers Private Limited warehouse, Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, Delhi
📌 Seized Products: Over 3,500 electrical items, including:

  • Geysers
  • Food mixers 📌 Estimated Value: ₹70 lakh

BIS officials carried out a 15-hour operation to confiscate these products, which were being sold without mandatory quality certification.


Flipkart’s Instacart Services Warehouse Also Raided

BIS also conducted a raid at Flipkart’s subsidiary warehouse, Instacart Services, resulting in the seizure of 590 pairs of sports footwear that lacked the required manufacturing certification.

Government’s Nationwide Crackdown on Non-Certified Goods

These raids are part of a larger enforcement campaign by the BIS, which has been conducting inspections across multiple cities, including:

  • Gurugram
  • Faridabad
  • Lucknow
  • Sriperumbudur

The goal is to ensure that consumer products sold in India meet mandatory quality and safety standards.

The BIS has emphasized that these actions are critical to maintaining product quality and ensuring consumer safety. Currently, 769 product categories require mandatory certification from Indian regulators.
