MUMBAI, Jan. 11, 2026
Producer Mukesh Bhatt has confirmed that the release of Awarapan 2, the sequel to the 2007 cult film, has been postponed from April to May or June 2026 due to an injury sustained by lead actor Emraan Hashmi during shooting.
In an interview with PTI, Bhatt explained that Hashmi suffered an injury requiring surgery, preventing him from filming for 45 days. This delay affected the scheduling of remaining action sequences. Bhatt added that 20 days of shooting in Malaysia are still pending.
Bhatt explicitly stated he is not concerned about competition from upcoming releases, including Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic. “I am not afraid of Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic,” he said.
The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, gained a strong fan base through digital platforms, YouTube, and satellite broadcasts. Hashmi previously told News18 that the team has worked on the sequel’s script for several years to ensure quality.
Ahead of Awarapan 2, Hashmi stars in the web series Taskari The Smuggler, set to stream on Netflix starting January 14.
