The Adani Group has begun the construction of a 1600 MW coal-based Ultra Super Critical power plant in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, a project expected to deliver affordable electricity to the state for the next 25 years. Once operational, the plant will supply 1500 MW of power to Uttar Pradesh at a regulated tariff of ₹5.38 per unit, following the recent approval of the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) by the regulatory commission.
The project, coming up in Dadri Khurd village under the Sadar tehsil of Mirzapur district, had earlier received clearance from the Uttar Pradesh government and was awarded to Adani Power Limited through a competitive bidding process. The Ultra Super Critical technology being deployed is known for higher efficiency and comparatively lower emissions, making the upcoming facility one of the more advanced thermal plants in the region.
According to project estimates, the construction phase is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for nearly 8,000 to 9,000 people. Once the plant becomes operational, around 2,000 individuals are likely to secure permanent jobs. Local authorities believe the project will significantly boost infrastructure, transportation, and ancillary industries across the district.
The region, which has long struggled with limited industrial activity and fewer employment opportunities, is expected to witness an uptick in economic momentum as construction progresses. Improved connectivity and new support businesses are likely to emerge alongside the power project.
Meanwhile, the Adani Foundation continues its community welfare initiatives in Mirzapur. Under its Vision Care Program, more than 23,000 schoolchildren, women, and senior citizens have already been provided with eye check-ups and treatment services, reinforcing the group’s social responsibility commitment in the area.
