Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined the importance of accelerating reforms and improving governance efficiency as part of the government’s broader strategy to transform India into a developed nation under the “Viksit Bharat” vision.
The Prime Minister shared details of a high-level Council of Ministers meeting held at ‘Seva Teerth’ in New Delhi on Thursday evening following his return from recent foreign visits.
The meeting brought together Union Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State, and Ministers of State with independent charge, marking the first full Council of Ministers meeting of 2026. The previous such meeting was held on June 4, 2025.
In a post shared Friday on social media platform X, PM Modi said the discussions focused extensively on measures to strengthen “Ease of Living” and “Ease of Doing Business” across the country.
According to the Prime Minister, the meeting included deliberations on governance reforms, policy innovation, and administrative improvements aimed at accelerating India’s long-term development goals.
“The Council of Ministers meeting was highly productive. There was special emphasis on making governance more effective, improving the daily lives of citizens, and creating a stronger business environment,” Modi said.
He added that the government is committed to fast-tracking reforms that can help India maintain rapid economic growth while improving public service delivery and investment conditions.
The discussions come at a time when global economic conditions remain volatile due to the continuing conflict involving Iran and its wider impact on international energy markets. Rising uncertainty in crude oil prices and concerns surrounding inflation and fuel supply have added pressure to economies worldwide, including India.
Against this backdrop, the Indian government is closely monitoring energy security, inflation trends, and fuel availability to minimize potential economic disruptions.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Modi also appealed to citizens to use national resources responsibly amid evolving global conditions. He encouraged people to adopt work-from-home practices wherever feasible, prioritize online meetings, and reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.
The Prime Minister further advised citizens to avoid non-essential foreign travel and postpone gold purchases for at least one year as part of broader efforts to support economic stability and resource conservation.
Government officials said the reform agenda discussed during the meeting is expected to shape policy priorities in the coming months as India seeks to strengthen growth momentum despite external economic challenges.
