IMD Issues Multi-State Weather Alert as Rain, Dust Storms and Heatwave Conditions Intensify

India’s weather pattern has taken a dramatic turn once again, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of unstable conditions across large parts of the country over the next several days.

According to the latest forecast, active western disturbances and multiple cyclonic circulation systems are expected to trigger thunderstorms, rain, dust storms, lightning and strong winds across northwestern, central, northeastern and southern India.

Several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, are likely to witness intense weather activity, while parts of western Rajasthan and Gujarat may continue to struggle with severe heatwave conditions.

Delhi-NCR Braces for Dust Storms and Rain

The IMD has forecast a rapid weather shift in Delhi-NCR between the early hours of May 12 and May 14. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds ranging between 30 and 60 kmph is expected in several areas.

Authorities have also warned of sudden dust storms that may reduce visibility and disrupt road traffic during peak hours. Experts say daytime temperatures may remain high, but cloud cover and rainfall could bring temporary relief from the ongoing heat.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of low visibility.

Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Likely to See Strong Winds

Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are also expected to experience thunderstorms and scattered rainfall over the next four days. Wind speeds in some regions may reach up to 60 kmph, increasing the risk of damage to standing crops and fruit orchards.

Agricultural experts have advised farmers to improve drainage systems in wheat fields, vegetable farms and orchards to prevent waterlogging. Farmers have also been urged to provide additional support to weaker plants to minimize storm-related damage.

Jammu and Himachal May Receive Hailstorms and Snowfall

The weather department has also predicted hailstorms in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Higher-altitude regions may witness light snowfall due to changing atmospheric conditions linked to the western disturbance.

Tourists and travelers heading toward hill stations have been advised to monitor local weather advisories and exercise caution in landslide-prone or slippery areas.

Rajasthan Faces Double Threat of Storms and Heatwave

Rajasthan is expected to experience two contrasting weather patterns simultaneously. While several districts may receive dust storms, thunderstorms and light rainfall, western Rajasthan is likely to continue facing extreme heatwave conditions.

The IMD has warned that hot winds could intensify on May 12 and May 13, especially in western districts. Eastern Rajasthan may continue recording elevated daytime temperatures, while warm night conditions could persist in desert regions.

Barmer remained the hottest location in the country on the previous day, recording a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius.

Markets and Public Services on Alert

Weather experts say the ongoing atmospheric instability could impact transportation, agriculture and power demand in several regions. Local administrations in vulnerable districts are reportedly monitoring the situation closely as strong winds and lightning activity may affect daily operations.

Authorities have advised residents to secure loose outdoor items, avoid sheltering under trees during storms and stay updated through official weather advisories.
