Tehran, Iran — April 30, 2026

Iran has issued a strong warning of deploying what it described as a “new and fear-inducing weapon” amid escalating tensions with the United States and Israel, further intensifying concerns over stability in the Middle East.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, told state media that Tehran is prepared to use advanced capabilities that could “cause serious alarm” to its adversaries. He added that the system is already positioned close to enemy forces, though no technical details were disclosed.

Escalation Comes Amid Diplomatic Breakdown

The warning follows a breakdown in diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington. Donald Trump reportedly rejected a proposal from Iran that linked reopening the Strait of Hormuz to the lifting of U.S. sanctions.

According to officials, the proposal also suggested postponing discussions on Iran’s nuclear program—an idea that Washington dismissed outright.

Claims of Military Confrontation

Iranian officials further claimed that their forces carried out multiple missile operations targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), temporarily disrupting its operational capabilities.

These claims have not been independently verified.

Tehran also stated that it has conducted more than 100 retaliatory strikes against U.S. and Israeli-linked targets across the region since hostilities escalated.

Strait of Hormuz at Center of Crisis

Iran confirmed actions to restrict access through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes. Under normal conditions, roughly 20% of global crude oil shipments pass through this corridor.

Officials claimed that vessels associated with adversarial nations must now seek clearance from Iranian authorities before transiting the route. They warned that any unauthorized movement could trigger immediate military response.

Despite the restrictions, some commercial vessels have reportedly continued operations, indicating partial rather than total disruption.

Sharp Accusations Against U.S. Actions

In a sharply worded statement, Iranian officials accused U.S. forces of unlawfully seizing Iranian vessels and detaining crew members, describing the actions as “maritime piracy” and alleging mistreatment of sailors and their families.

The United States has not publicly responded to these specific allegations.

Rising Global Concerns

The escalating rhetoric and military posturing have raised alarm among global observers, particularly due to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global energy supply and trade stability.

Analysts warn that any prolonged disruption in the region could have far-reaching consequences for oil prices, inflation, and global economic stability.
