New Delhi, India | April 6, 2026

India is set to witness fluctuating weather conditions on Monday as the India Meteorological Department issued multiple alerts across northern and eastern regions, warning of dust storms, hailstorms, and light rainfall.

According to the IMD, pre-monsoon activity is intensifying, leading to sudden weather changes in several parts of the country.

Rain Likely in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh

In Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh, light rain and thunderstorms are expected later in the day. Cloud cover is likely to increase in areas including Noida and Ghaziabad, with brief showers potentially bringing temporary relief from rising temperatures.

Cool winds have already been reported since late Sunday night, signaling a shift in weather patterns across the region.

Dust Storm Alert in Rajasthan

An orange alert has been issued for western parts of Rajasthan, particularly in districts such as Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40–50 km/h, raising the risk of dust storms and reduced visibility.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors and take precautions against strong winds and airborne dust.

Hailstorm Warning in Eastern States

The IMD has also warned of possible hailstorms in parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Farmers in these regions have been urged to remain cautious, as hailstorms could damage standing crops and disrupt agricultural activity.

Heat Persists in Southern and Western India

While northern regions experience fluctuating conditions, heatwave-like temperatures continue in parts of southern India and Maharashtra. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 40°C and 42°C, maintaining intense summer conditions.

Outlook

The IMD indicates that such mixed weather patterns are typical during the pre-monsoon phase, with rapid shifts between heat, wind, and precipitation. Authorities continue to monitor developments and advise citizens to follow local weather updates and safety advisories.
