Iran Vows Defiance as Trump Considers Military Action Amid Nuclear Deal Pressure

Tehran, Iran — February 21, 2026

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that his country would not “bow its head” to global pressure, delivering a defiant televised address amid rising tensions with the United States over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Speaking on state television, Pezeshkian said world powers were attempting to force Iran into submission but warned that no amount of pressure would compel compliance.

Trump Signals Possible Military Action

The remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Washington is considering limited military action if Iran fails to reach an agreement to curb its nuclear activities. Trump had earlier ordered an increase in naval deployments in the Middle East to intensify pressure on Tehran.

On Thursday, Trump said that if Iran does not finalize a deal within a specified timeframe, “things will get bad.” He initially set a 10-day deadline before extending it to 15 days. When asked by reporters whether he was weighing a limited strike, he replied that he was “considering it.”

Diplomatic Talks Continue in Geneva

The heightened rhetoric follows recent negotiations between Iranian and U.S. officials in Geneva, where both sides discussed a potential framework agreement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a draft proposal could be ready within days and described it as the “next step” in talks.

He indicated the document would be delivered to Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff for review.

Araghchi also stated that U.S. intermediaries had not demanded that Iran completely dismantle its uranium enrichment program — a claim that contrasts with public statements by American officials.

Military Pressure Strategy Intensifies

As part of Washington’s pressure campaign, U.S. naval forces have reportedly increased their presence in strategic waters near the region. Analysts say such deployments are intended to signal readiness while negotiations continue, a tactic often used to strengthen leverage during high-stakes diplomatic talks.

Geopolitical Stakes Rising

The standoff underscores the fragile balance between diplomacy and deterrence in the Middle East. While negotiations appear to be progressing toward a draft agreement, strong rhetoric from both sides highlights persistent mistrust and the risk of escalation if talks collapse.

Global observers say the coming days could prove decisive for whether diplomacy prevails or tensions deepen.
