Sunny Deol’s much-awaited war epic ‘Border 2’ has made a thunderous entry at the Indian box office, rewriting opening-day records and overpowering recent blockbuster ‘Dhurandhar’ on its very first day in theaters.
Released nationwide on January 23, Border 2 opened to packed cinemas and strong word-of-mouth, reflecting massive audience anticipation. The film’s patriotic theme, emotional storytelling, and star-studded cast contributed to a powerful Day 1 performance.
🔥 Border 2 Opening Day Box Office Collection
According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 collected an impressive ₹30 crore on its opening day, making it one of the biggest Bollywood openers of the year.
With this figure, the film has:
✅ Surpassed ‘Dhurandhar’, which earned ₹28 crore on its opening day after its December 5 release
✅ Outperformed ‘Saiyaara’, last year’s top-three grosser that opened at ₹21.5 crore
✅ Delivered a strong start against its reported ₹275 crore production budget
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh. The film is a sequel to the iconic 1997 blockbuster Border and is based on the 1971 India–Pakistan war, a subject that continues to resonate strongly with Indian audiences.
🎬 Dhurandhar Box Office Status
Despite losing its opening-day record, Dhurandhar continues to display remarkable staying power at the box office. The film recently completed 50 days in theaters and still managed to earn ₹55 lakh on its 50th day, taking its total collection to ₹831.05 crore.
Since its release, Dhurandhar has dominated the box office, outperforming films like Ikkis, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, Happy Patel, Rahu Ketu, and even Prabhas’ The Raja Saab.
🎭 Happy Patel Khatarnaak Jasoos Update
Aamir Khan Productions’ spy comedy ‘Happy Patel Khatarnaak Jasoos’, starring and directed by Vir Das, appears to be nearing the end of its theatrical run. Released on January 16, the film earned ₹20 lakh on its seventh day (Thursday). Box office figures for Day 8 are yet to be reported following Border 2’s arrival.
