The Indian stock market began the week on a weak note as both benchmark indices opened in the red on Monday. The downward trend comes after a sharp sell-off on Friday, reflecting cautious investor sentiment amid global market uncertainty.
At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex fell 228.43 points (0.27%) to 83,347.81, while the NSE Nifty slipped 61.65 points (0.24%) to 25,621.65, extending last week’s decline.
On Friday, the market had closed significantly lower, with the Sensex dropping 604.72 points to 83,576.24 and the Nifty losing 193.55 points to settle at 25,683.30.
Analysts note that volatility may remain elevated due to global cues, crude price fluctuations, and investor caution ahead of key macroeconomic announcements scheduled later this week.
More sector-wise and stock-specific movement will shape the day’s trading direction.
