Nayak 2 and Shraddha Kapoor’s Nagin Drive Sequel Fever in Bollywood

As of January 5, 2026, the Indian film industry is witnessing heightened excitement around two major projects that signal Bollywood’s renewed focus on large-scale sequels and franchises—Nayak 2 and Shraddha Kapoor’s Nagin: The Trilogy.

Nayak 2: One Day Chief Minister Returns

Nearly 25 years after the 2001 cult classic Nayak: The Real Hero, Anil Kapoor is officially set to reprise his iconic role as Shivaji Rao. Producers Deepak Mukut and Anil Kapoor have formally confirmed the sequel, ending years of speculation.

Fueling the buzz further, Anil Kapoor recently shared images showcasing his six-pack transformation on social media, widely believed to be part of his physical preparation for the role. Industry sources suggest that Nayak 2 will be helmed by a new-generation, dynamic director.

The story is expected to pick up with Shivaji Rao now established as a successful politician, navigating the challenges of modern governance shaped by digital media, artificial intelligence, and fast-evolving public scrutiny.

To fill the void left by the late Amrish Puri’s legendary antagonist from the original film, discussions are reportedly underway to cast a major South Indian superstar as the new villain, adding a Pan-India dimension to the sequel.

Shraddha Kapoor’s Nagin: The Trilogy

Shraddha Kapoor’s Nagin is shaping up to be one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious supernatural franchises. Pre-production, including extensive VFX planning and look tests, has already been completed. Shraddha Kapoor is expected to begin shooting in April 2026.

The actress has revealed that she has been preparing for the role for a long time, focusing on specialized dance training and physical flexibility to authentically portray the mythical shape-shifting serpent character.

Following the blockbuster success of Stree 2, the makers are scaling up Nagin significantly. An international VFX team has been brought on board to ensure the transformation sequences appear realistic and visually compelling on screen.

Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, Nagin is planned as a three-part trilogy, with each installment designed to expand the supernatural universe.

Other Big Sequels in the 2026 Pipeline

Alongside Nayak 2 and Nagin, several other high-profile sequels are generating anticipation. Dhoom 4 remains one of the most talked-about projects, with Ranbir Kapoor’s name frequently mentioned as a potential lead. Meanwhile, reports suggest that work has begun on Brahmastra 2, which will explore the story arc of Dev.

With established franchises returning and new cinematic universes taking shape, 2026 is emerging as a defining year for sequel-driven storytelling in Bollywood.
