Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting U.S. President Donald Trump today at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida for high-stakes talks on a revised peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year war between Ukraine and Russia.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the proposal is a 20-point peace framework, streamlined from an earlier 28-point U.S.-brokered plan. The revised draft focuses on three core pillars: long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, unresolved territorial disputes in eastern Ukraine, and international oversight of critical infrastructure, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
President Zelenskyy has expressed cautious optimism ahead of the meeting, describing the plan as “90% ready” and saying Kyiv is seeking firm assurances that any ceasefire or settlement would prevent future Russian aggression. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stressed the need for security guarantees comparable to NATO protections, even if full alliance membership remains unresolved.
President Trump, speaking before the talks, said the discussions could be “good” but emphasized that no agreement would move forward without his direct approval. He has framed himself as a potential dealmaker in the conflict, signaling openness to negotiations while maintaining that U.S. interests must be protected.
The peace plan reportedly addresses territorial arrangements in the Donbas region, where fighting has remained intense, and proposes an internationally supervised mechanism for managing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility, Europe’s largest, which has raised persistent safety concerns amid the war.
However, the meeting has triggered unease among European allies, who fear the revised proposal could involve concessions that favor Moscow. Several European diplomats have warned that any settlement perceived as rewarding territorial gains achieved through force could undermine international norms and destabilize the region further.
The Zelenskyy–Trump meeting is being closely watched in Kyiv, Moscow, and European capitals, as it could signal a major shift in the diplomatic trajectory of the conflict. While both sides have struck a cautiously hopeful tone, officials stress that significant gaps remain and that no final agreement has yet been reached.
