Air pollution in the national capital Delhi has reached an alarming level, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) entering the ‘Severe’ category in several areas. Thursday morning began with dense smog and haze, sharply reducing visibility across large parts of the city.

A thick blanket of toxic smog covered the skyline, making breathing difficult and raising serious health concerns. Areas such as Anand Vihar reported extremely hazardous conditions, with pollution levels remaining critically high.

AQI Crosses 400 in Multiple Locations

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI in several parts of Delhi crossed 400, placing air quality in the ‘Severe’ category.

  • Anand Vihar: AQI 416 (Severe)

  • Akshardham: AQI 416 (Severe)

  • Vivek Vihar: AQI 412 (Severe)

  • ITO: AQI 397 (Very Poor)

  • Dwarka: AQI 361 (Very Poor)

  • Chandni Chowk: AQI 387 (Very Poor)

  • India Gate area: AQI 344 (Very Poor)

  • Chanakyapuri: AQI 374 (Very Poor)

Visuals from Chanakyapuri and India Gate showed thick smog layers hovering in the air, further highlighting the deteriorating situation.

GRAP Stage IV Measures in Force

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced all actions under GRAP Stage IV across the Delhi-NCR region in response to the worsening air quality. These measures include strict restrictions on construction activities, vehicle movement, and industrial emissions to prevent further deterioration.

Health experts have advised residents, especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor exposure and use protective masks where necessary.
