Beirut, November 10: An Israeli drone strike targeted the Lebanese city of Hermel in the eastern Bekaa Valley late Sunday, according to reports by Al Jazeera, as cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continue to intensify.
Local sources said a large explosion was heard near Hermel, a Hezbollah stronghold close to the Syrian border, but no immediate casualties were reported. Lebanese security agencies have yet to issue an official statement.
The strike marks a fresh escalation in the border conflict that has gripped southern Lebanon for weeks, following repeated exchanges of artillery fire and drone activity along the Israel-Lebanon frontier. The attack is believed to have targeted what Israeli officials described as “militant infrastructure,” though details remain unverified.
Al Jazeera’s Beirut bureau reported that the explosion triggered panic among residents, with emergency services deployed to the area. The network also noted that tensions remain high as both sides trade accusations of violating ceasefire understandings brokered by international mediators.
The incident comes amid a broader regional flare-up, with Israel increasing its aerial operations across Lebanon and Syria, citing preemptive defense measures. Analysts warn that continued escalation could draw neighboring powers into a wider confrontation if diplomatic efforts fail.
