According to the forecast released by the Meteorological Department, the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be higher than normal during winter in most parts of the country. Weather experts say that due to the absence of La Nina, winter may be warmer than normal this year. La Nina is caused by the interaction between the Pacific Ocean and the upper atmosphere. La Nina is usually associated with cold winters, but this year this phenomenon has not occurred. During La Nina, trade winds become stronger, which moves large amounts of water towards the western Pacific region, cooling the temperature in the eastern Pacific region. However, La Nina conditions are more likely to develop around January, February 2025. La Nina conditions are expected to increase by the beginning of the new year.

During the month of December, rainfall is likely to be above normal across the country. It can be 121 percent more than the Long Period Average (LPA). Most parts of the peninsula, west-central India, east-central India and parts of Northeast India are expected to receive above normal rainfall i.e. more than 131 percent of the long LPA. The southern peninsula of India includes Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala and south interior Karnataka. The average rainfall here is being reflected in the entire country. Otherwise, there will not be much rain in other parts of the country.
