Free electricity scheme: Ineligible consumers will be identified and excluded from the scheme

INVC NEWS
Bhopal : Free electricity scheme 2024 latest update – All three electricity distribution companies of Madhya Pradesh – East Zone, Central Zone, and West Zone – will use geo tagging technology to identify ineligible consumers under the Free electricity scheme ( Atal Jyoti Yojana )  This investigation will be done in collaboration with MPSEDC (Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation Limited), which has already started from the posh areas of Bhopal and Gwalior.

Under the Atal Jyoti Yojana, free electricity is provided to consumers with monthly electricity consumption up to 150 units. To check the actual status of the consumers availing this scheme, the electricity distribution companies have provided the data of their billing system to MPSEDC. Along with this, coordination of property data of Municipal Corporation and Municipality has also been established. Information of consumers will be extracted by MPSEDC through geo tagging, which will make it clear whether consumers with large land area or high-priced properties are taking unfair advantage of this scheme. Based on the information received, the electricity distribution companies are planning to identify such premises and take action. With the help of MPSEDC’s MP Geo Portal, information of property registrations done under the Collector Guidelines will be extracted, which will reveal which consumer’s electricity consumption is up to 150 units. This will identify ineligible consumers and exclude them from the scope of Atal Jyoti Yojana.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Geo Tagging Technology: The three electricity distribution companies (East, Central, and West Zones) are using geo tagging technology in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSEDC) to identify ineligible consumers. This investigation began in upscale areas of Bhopal and Gwalior.
  2. Data Collection: The electricity companies have shared their billing system data with MPSEDC, which will analyze it along with property data from Municipal Corporations. MPSEDC will extract relevant information using the MP Geo Portal, which provides access to property registration details based on Collector Guidelines.
  3. Identification of Ineligible Consumers: This process will reveal whether consumers living on high-value properties or large plots are unfairly taking advantage of the scheme. The goal is to ensure that only those truly eligible (i.e., low consumption consumers) continue to benefit.
  4. Appeal to Consumers: The electricity companies have asked consumers with more than one electricity connection in a single premise to consolidate them into one. Consumers can visit their nearest electricity distribution center or zone office to resolve this issue.

Electricity distribution companies have appealed to such consumers who have more than one electricity connection in their premises. They have been suggested to merge their connections and get a single electricity connection. For this, consumers can contact the nearest electricity distribution center or zone office.
