Mumbai Due to heavy rains, 48 houses were destroyed in a rock slide in Maharashtra’s Raigad on Wednesday night. 13 people have died in the accident, while 75 people were rescued. More than 120 people are still buried under the debris. NDRF teams are deployed on the spot to rescue these people in Irshalwadi village. Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil has said that if required, the injured will be airlifted.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the families of the deceased would be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Maharashtra government. Along with this, the government will also bear the expenses of the treatment of the injured. These days there is a flood-like situation in 4 districts of the state. In Raigarh district, 3 out of 6 rivers are flowing above the danger mark. These include Amba, Savitri and Patalganga. Officials said that the water level of Kundalika, Garhi and Ulhas rivers has reached near the danger mark. Amidst the flood-like situation, 12 NDRF teams have been deployed in the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains in 20 states of the country today. At the same time, there is a possibility of moderate rain in 4 states.
Raigarh District Magistrate Yogesh Mahase said that the incident took place in the middle of the night. A team, comprising Sub Divisional Officer and Tehsildar has reached the spot. The District Magistrate said that one has to trek for two hours to reach the place where the landslide occurred, due to which the relief and rescue work is challenging. As soon as the information about the incident was received, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also called the officials and inquired about the incident and reached the spot on Thursday morning. All the hospitals in Panvel and Navi Mumbai have been informed and instructed to provide all necessary medical services to the affected.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Raigarh on Thursday. The district administration has appealed to the NGOs to come forward to help the NDRF so that the rescue operation can be completed at the earliest. Two teams of NDRF have reached the spot. Along with this, four ambulances are also present on the spot. Tribal people live at the place where the accident took place. Five-six houses and a school were saved safely at the accident site. Due to the rain, 10-12 people were staying in the school, due to which their lives were saved.
