Intensified cyclonic storm ‘Asani’

The cyclonic storm over East Bay of Bengal intensified almost northwestwards into a severe cyclonic storm and lay centered over southeast and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal at 5.30 pm on Sunday.

The cyclonic storm is about 610 km northwest of Car Nicobar (Nicobar Islands), 500 km west of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 810 km southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 880 km from Puri (Odisha). was in the south-southeast.

According to the IMD bulletin, it is very likely to move northwestwards by the night of May 10 and reach west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Thereafter, it is very likely to turn north-northeastwards and move towards northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast.

Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy falls very likely at isolated places over Coastal Odisha and adjoining North Coastal Andhra Pradesh from May 10 evening.

For the next day, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Coastal Odisha and Coastal North Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. It is likely to continue till May 12.

Gale wind speed reaching 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph is very likely to prevail over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and gradually speed up to 95-105 kmph The speed will increase to 115 kmph.

Strong wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph very likely along and off north Andhra Pradesh coast on May 10 and 11.

As the sea condition is very likely to be high to very high, fishermen have been advised to stay in the central parts of Bay of Bengal on 9th May, west central Bay of Bengal on 9th and 10th May and north-central Bay of Bengal from 10th to 12th May. Do not go to the Bay of West Bengal. PLC&GT
