Kashmir Freezes: Night Temperatures Plunge Below Zero Across the Valley

The temperature of all districts of Kashmir valley has gone below zero degree. There is a biting cold with cold wave. Fog has started freezing. People are resorting to bonfires to avoid the cold. Night temperature has also dropped in Jammu division. Minimum temperature has dropped from normal to minus one to minus six degrees in most parts of the state. Thursday night was the coldest of the season with minus 4.1 degrees in Srinagar. Minimum temperature has also gone below zero degree for the first time in the season in Banihal of Jammu division.

According to Meteorological Center Srinagar, rain and snowfall may occur in some parts of the state from the night of December 8 to December 9. The weather is expected to remain dry from December 10 to 14. The weather will also deteriorate in mid-December. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall on December 15 to 16.

There is severe cold in the plains and hilly areas of Kashmir. In most districts, the day temperature has also dropped from normal to between 10 to 13 degrees. On Friday, amid dry weather, the maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 11.8, in Pahalgam 10.5 and in Gulmarg 4.0 degrees Celsius.

In Jammu, the cold is not felt much during the day, but shivering has increased in the night and morning. Here the maximum temperature was recorded at 22.2 and the minimum temperature at 8.6 degrees Celsius. Here the minimum temperature has been below 10 degrees for the last two days. The maximum temperature was recorded at 17.6 in Banihal, 17.1 in Batote, 19.8 in Kathua and 16.2 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah.

As the temperature continues to drop, Kashmir Valley and Jammu brace for an increasingly harsh winter. With forecasts indicating more snow and rain in the coming days, residents must stay vigilant and take proactive measures to stay warm and safe.
