United Nations General Assembly President Saba Korosi has warned that the world is now facing a very serious nuclear threat after decades. Korosi on Wednesday urged member states to cooperate with the United Nations to ensure nuclear security, making remarks at the port-at-home meeting of the IAEA for 2021, Xinhua news agency reported.
He said that the trend of current developments is appalling. At present, the world is facing the threat of nuclear proliferation and nuclear catastrophe so seriously after decades.
He said the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has added to this concern, creating a global energy crisis and raising prices.
Korosi said an IAEA mission in Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine, is working round the clock to ensure the safety of the nuclear power plant there to prevent nuclear threats.
“We cannot allow nuclear security to be jeopardized in Ukraine and beyond,” United Nations General Assembly President Saba Korosi said.
Korosi urged all parties to cooperate with the IAEA to ensure nuclear security and reiterated the importance of the information provided by the IAEA regarding nuclear issues.
He said that the steps to dismantle the system of non-proliferation are very dangerous, it is a great threat to peace and security.
Korosi said that as more countries turn to nuclear energy to meet their needs, the IAEA’s responsibility for using nuclear technologies in a safe and peaceful manner has increased. PLC/GT
