Usha Mangeshkar shot into fame way back in 1955 when she sang a duet with older sister Lata filmed in the movie Azaad on the Travancore sisters, Sai and Subbulaxmi. It was a sister act in quadrangle and the song ‘Aplam Chaplam Chaplai Re…’ became an instant hit and is evergreen still. Besides singing hundreds of Marathi and Gujarati film songs, Usha created a record with the title song of the religious film Jai Santoshi Ma (1975), Main to Arati Uratoon Re, which earned a Filmfare award nomination. The city audience will get a chance to be face to face with this singer On February 22 Tagore Theatre here will witness an evening dedicated at a musical extravaganza called ‘Old Melodies , organized by the Legendary Mukesh Musical Arts and Cultural Society (LEMACS) which will be giving some memorable music in the presence of a Mumbai celebrity third year running. According to M.L.Singla, President, LEMACS: “The musical concert will be held as a tribute to the renowned Bollywood singers and music maestros like Mukesh, Mohammad Rafi, Talat Mehmood, Jagjit Singh, Mahender Kapoor, Salil chaudhary, S.D Burman, Madan Mohan, Shankar-Jaikishan, Hans Rja Behl, Ghulam Muhanmmad,
C.Ramchandra, Chitragupt, Hemant Kumar and others.” Amateur singers
not only form the tri-city but also from Punjab,Haryana, Himachal,
Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal will be performing at the event. The music will be co-ordinated by region’s favorite Rajinder Singh Commando. The compere for the evening will be renowned radio announcer Jainendra Singh.
