Dateline: Chennai, India — February 21, 2026

The legal dispute surrounding Jana Nayagan, widely reported as the final film of actor Vijay, has been resolved, clearing a major obstacle to its theatrical release.

Producers KVN Productions withdrew their petition from the Madras High Court, allowing the film to move forward for fresh review by the censor board’s Revising Committee.

Censorship Issue That Delayed Release

The film was initially expected to receive a UA certificate, but certification stalled after objections were raised by a committee member. According to reports, concerns were expressed that certain scenes might affect religious sentiments or depict security agencies in a sensitive manner.

The Revising Committee will now reassess the film and decide its certification status.

New Release Window Expected

Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for release on January 9, 2026, during the Pongal festival. However, the censorship dispute forced the makers to postpone the launch.

Industry sources now suggest the film is being planned for a June 2026 theatrical release, potentially timed close to Vijay’s birthday to maximize audience turnout and fan engagement.

Cast and Crew Details

Directed by H. Vinoth, the project is described as a political action thriller. The film’s cast includes:

  • Pooja Hegde

  • Bobby Deol

  • Mamitha Baiju

  • Prakash Raj

Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, known for his chart-topping soundtracks in major Indian films.

Why the Film Is Highly Anticipated

The film has generated strong buzz because it is widely expected to be Vijay’s last acting project before shifting his focus toward public life. Trade analysts say the resolution of the legal issue could boost anticipation and help the film secure a strong opening once released.
