UP Draft Voter List Released Under SIR

Lucknow | January 6, 2026

Uttar Pradesh has released the first draft electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), allowing voters to check their names online, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa said on Monday.

According to the Election Commission, the state currently has over 12.55 crore voters. After the completion of the first phase of the revision exercise, around 2.89 crore names—nearly 18 percent—were excluded from the draft list.

Claims and Objections Timeline

The process for filing claims and objections will begin on January 6, and voters whose names do not appear in the draft list can apply for inclusion by submitting Form 6 until February 6, 2026. The final electoral roll will be published on March 6, 2026.

The Election Commission clarified that filing claims and objections is free of cost. To assist voters, a dedicated helpline number 1950 has been activated. Due to relatively low participation in urban areas, special assistance camps will also be organized.

Who Can Apply

CEO Navdeep Rinwa said that individuals born before January 1, 2008, are eligible to submit forms. Those becoming eligible from October onward may also apply. Notices will be issued only in cases where submitted forms could not be mapped during verification.

Background of the Revision Process

The SIR process began on October 27, 2025, with the first phase starting on November 4. At that time, Uttar Pradesh had over 15.03 crore registered voters. Enumeration forms were printed and distributed door-to-door.

While the counting phase was initially set to conclude on December 11, the deadline was extended to allow additional verification. An extra 15-day window was provided to review 2.97 lakh names marked for deletion.

Why Names Were Removed

Officials said about 81 percent of voters confirmed their details by signing and returning the forms. The remaining 18 percent did not respond for various reasons:

  • 46.23 lakh names belonged to deceased voters

  • 2.17 crore voters had shifted residence

  • 25.47 lakh names were found duplicated across constituencies

In total, 2.89 crore names did not appear in the draft list.
