Jaipur : The security and privacy of every citizen in cyberspace is not the sole responsibility of the government alone,” says Prof. Dr. DP Sharma, a Digital Diplomat associated with the United Nations Development Program. He spoke at an international convention jointly organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) WIE ISTIC Tunisia and IEEE WIE Manipal University Jaipur.

Dr. Sharma highlighted the growing concern: as our reliance on the internet and its systems deepens, cybercrimes are escalating at an alarming rate. He emphasized that personal privacy in cyberspace is now at a critical juncture.

Dr. Sharma urged collaboration between university and college students, research experts, and technical specialists. Together, they can create public awareness campaigns at the societal and national levels. These initiatives should promote ethical online behavior and educate users about cyber threats. By working together, we can curb the rise of cybercrime. The solution extends beyond government intervention; it requires a collective social effort.

The recently held international conclave brought together subject matter experts from India, Tunisia, and the United States to discuss various cyber threats and preventative measures. Speaking from the United States, Rahul Dhingra noted that while new systems are being developed, so too are increasingly sophisticated methods for committing cybercrimes.

Information technology expert Aditya Tiwari stressed the importance of awareness in today’s world, where we are constantly bombarded with online threats.

Ananta Bansal, the event organizer and chairperson, explained that the international conclave aimed to educate students about cybercrime and related job opportunities. Dr. Gautam Kumar of Manipal University emphasized the responsibility of educational institutions to organize awareness campaigns to caution students. This proactive approach can safeguard young people who are increasingly vulnerable to emerging cybercrimes.

Oussama Ben from Tunisia provided a detailed explanation of the dangers associated with cyber data and the importance of privacy and security. Tahir Amine, a cybercrime expert from Tunisia, moderated the event, fostering a productive dialogue and discussion.

Other speakers included Dr. Ghanshyam Singh from the United States and Chirag Sharma and Aarushi from India.
