Mr Ram Niwas, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Haryana Development and Panchayat Department today reviewed the progress of socio-economic and caste census 2011 being conducted in the state through a video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners in the State.
Highlighting the methodology of caste census, Mr Ram Niwas said that the enumerators were visiting every household and canvassing the questionnaire. The data entry operator accompanied with each enumerator is entering the responses into a handheld device. The scan images of the forms filled up for the national census register were being entered into hand-held devices and the data so collected was being got verified by the panchayats. Any person could submit claims and objections to the information officers designated. The draft of this list would be available in the office of gram panchayat, block development office, charge centre and office of Deputy Commissioner.
He said that the socio-economic and caste census would be completed in the state within a stipulated period. With this census, the social and economic status of the families in rural and urban areas would be determined and the state government would be able to prepare a list of the families living below poverty lines.
During video conferencing, Deputy Commissioner Sirsa, Mr Samir Pal Srow said that district Sirsa was a leading district in the state in conducting socio-economic and caste census. The process of this census was started in the district on November 19, whereas the work of census in other districts was started earlier. The census process was going on smoothly in the district. The census work in 690 blocks out of the total 2433 blocks in the district had already been completed.
