The 4th Chandigarh National Crafts Mela present it’s attraction of cultural event

The 4th Chandigarh National Crafts Mela organised by Chandigarh Administration and North Zone Culture Centre concluded with colourful Medley of folk performances of India with amidst other gala celebrations at Kalagram today. The closing ceremony will be attended by  Sh.M.P.SinghPrincipal Secretary to Governor Punjab, Director NZCC and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh This year the theme of the festival was the Tribal India . Around 140 craftsperson and artisans from across the country participated in this year’s mega tourism cultural event where 400 folk artists and dancers from far flung areas of country were specially called along with dance troupes from Tamil Naidu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Lakshwadeep , Puducherry etc. The main attraction of the Craft Mela was the participation of Shilp Gurus, Sant Kabir awardees, National Awardees, National Merit Certificate holders and also State awardees who have put their craftsmanship at highest level for display for the public and the residents of the tricity. This year, the entire Crafts Mela Village wore a very ethnic look with the theme Tribal India. Around 22 states and Union territories of India had joined hands to put up an unbelievable show of handlooms and handicrafts. NZCC has invited acclaimed handloom/craft persons which include Shilpa Gurus, National Awardees, Sant Kabir Awardees with the assistance of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and tribal crafts persons especially selected by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India from all over the country. Today, at the Main stage in the Crafts Village, The evening will unfold with the colourful performance titled “Medley of Folk performances of India” in which more than 125 folk artisans, performers gave an astonishing colourful thunderous performance. There were dances like Jounsari nritya(Uttarakhand),Kaksar (Chattisgarh), Garasia (Rajasthan), Lambadi (Andhra Pradesh), Gujjar/Bakarwal Dance ( Jammu& Kashmir),Tamang Selo(Sikkim), Gaur Maria(Madhya Pradesh),Bardoi Shikhla (Assam),Thangta (Manipur),Sambalpuri Nritya(Odisha),Daangi (Gujarati),Kavadi Kadgam(Tamil Nadu) and Purulia chhau(West Bengal).
This year , the ten day long 4th Chandigarh Crafts Mela attracted lot of foreign and Indian tourists apart from people joining in the festivities at Kalagram with shopping of Art and crafts amongst folk performances by renowned artists of the country.
