Goa, India — January 4, 2026
Punjabi and Bollywood actress Sonam Bajwa has found herself at the center of a fresh controversy following her New Year dance performance in Goa, with the issue gaining significant traction across social media platforms on Saturday.
The controversy stems from Bajwa’s live performance at a popular club, La Sola, located at Baga Beach, where she performed on New Year celebrations. Videos from the event went viral online, drawing mixed reactions from viewers.
During the performance, Sonam Bajwa appeared in a silver short dress while dancing to popular tracks, including “Laal Pari” from her upcoming film Housefull 5 and “Shararat” from the recent hit film Dhurandhar. While many fans praised her energetic and confident stage presence, sections of the Punjabi community expressed strong objections.
Several social media users criticized her attire and dance moves, arguing that they were “against Punjabi culture and values.” Some comments went further, accusing the actress of misrepresenting Punjabi traditions through her performance, leading to intense online trolling.
At the same time, Bajwa received substantial support from her fan base, who defended her right to artistic expression and applauded her bold, modern image. Supporters highlighted that stage performances and cinema are evolving forms of entertainment and should not be judged through a narrow cultural lens.
This is not the first time Sonam Bajwa has faced public criticism. Past controversies resurfaced during the debate, including objections raised over a Punjabi film shoot at a mosque, which had prompted calls for an FIR, and criticism from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding scenes involving alcohol and smoking in a film trailer.
Despite the ongoing backlash, Sonam Bajwa continues to remain professionally active and is set to appear alongside Diljit Dosanjh in the highly anticipated film “Border 2,” which is expected to release later this year.
