Renowned Indian photographer Raghu Rai, celebrated for documenting the essence of India through his lens, passed away early Sunday at a private hospital. He was 83.
Widely regarded as one of India’s most influential photojournalists, Rai’s work spanned decades and captured the country’s social, political, and cultural landscape with remarkable depth and sensitivity.
His son, photographer Nitin Rai, confirmed the news and shared details of his father’s health. According to him, Raghu Rai had been diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago and underwent treatment. Although the cancer later spread to his abdomen and was treated, it recently reached his brain. He was also dealing with age-related health complications.

Family and Final Rites
Raghu Rai is survived by his wife Gurmeet, son Nitin, and daughters Lagan, Avani, and Purvai.
His last rites are scheduled to be held at Lodhi Crematorium at 4:00 PM on Sunday.
