New Delhi : The Delhi Police is proactively taking measures to ensure public safety and order. A significant step in this direction involves the installation of barricades on Delhi’s borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Over 5,000 security personnel are being deployed to manage and monitor the situation effectively, as confirmed by a senior police officer.
Protests and Traffic Disruptions
Thursday witnessed farmers from Uttar Pradesh staging a protest on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, attempting to march towards Delhi. However, the police intervened to prevent their entry into the capital, leading to substantial traffic jams on key routes. The disruptive nature of such protests underscores the importance of proactive measures to maintain public order and safety.
Demands and Expectations
Several farmer organizations, predominantly from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, have announced plans for another protest on February 13. Their primary demand revolves around securing a law that guarantees the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce. This demand was among the key conditions set forth by farmers during their previous agitation against the now-repealed farm laws in 2021.
Additionally, the farmers are advocating for the implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, provision of pension for farmers and farm labourers, farm loan waivers, withdrawal of police cases, and justice for the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence. These demands reflect the broader socio-economic concerns and grievances within the agricultural community.
Collaboration and Planning
In anticipation of the upcoming protest, police authorities are actively coordinating with their counterparts in Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The objective is to ascertain the extent of participation from various farmer organizations and estimate the expected turnout. Such collaborative efforts enable law enforcement agencies to devise comprehensive strategies to maintain law and order effectively.
Recent Developments
Thursday witnessed thousands of farmers from approximately 100 villages in Noida and Greater Noida taking to the streets, causing widespread disruptions in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Prominent farmer leader Rakesh Tikait joined the protesters in Greater Noida, lending his support to the ongoing demonstrations. Members of his organization, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), staged protests outside the local authority office.
Police Actions and Containment
Efforts were concentrated on the Chilla border in Noida to prevent protesters, who commenced their march from the Mahamaya flyover around 12 noon, from infiltrating the national capital. These proactive measures are aimed at maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of all citizens amidst the escalating tensions.
Delhi Police to prevent
As tensions escalate and farmer protests intensify, the role of law enforcement agencies in maintaining public order and safety becomes increasingly critical. The proactive measures undertaken by the Delhi Police to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the smooth functioning of daily life underscore their commitment to upholding law and order in the face of challenging circumstances. With collaborative efforts and strategic planning, authorities aim to navigate through the current situation while safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders involved.
