PM Modi in Jordan: Calls for Stronger Trade Ties, Invites Investments at Business Forum

Narendra Modi

Amman, Jordan – December 16, 2025 : The  Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Jordan’s King Abdullah II, addressed the India-Jordan Business Forum on Tuesday, emphasizing the deep-rooted trust and historical ties between the two nations while inviting Jordanian businesses to invest in India’s booming economy.

Highlighting that India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, PM Modi stressed that bilateral relations go beyond mere numbers. “In the world of business, figures hold importance, but our goal is not just to increase trade—it’s to build a future based on trust and long-term partnership,” he said.

The Prime Minister evoked historical trade routes, noting that goods once traveled from Gujarat to Europe via Petra. “It’s time to revive these ancient connections for shared prosperity,” Modi added, praising Jordan’s role as a strategic bridge connecting regions under King Abdullah’s leadership.

During discussions with the King, Modi focused on transforming geographical advantages into economic opportunities. He showcased India’s robust growth—over 8% annually—driven by productivity, governance, and innovation, positioning the country on track to become the world’s third-largest economy.

“India offers a reliable growth engine and trusted supply chains for the global market. Together, India and Jordan can play a pivotal role in meeting these needs,” Modi stated, inviting Jordanian firms to leverage India’s 1.4 billion consumer market, manufacturing strength, and transparent policies.

The leaders agreed to aim for doubling bilateral trade—currently around $2.8 billion—to $5 billion in the next five years. Opportunities highlighted include fertilizers (phosphates), renewable energy, digital infrastructure, agri-tech, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

This forum marks a key highlight of PM Modi’s official visit to Jordan, the first leg of his three-nation tour, coinciding with 75 years of diplomatic ties. Earlier outcomes include multiple MoUs on renewable energy, water management, cultural programs, and digital solutions.

As Modi heads to Ethiopia next, the strengthened India-Jordan economic partnership signals promising avenues for mutual growth and regional stability.
