PM Narendra Modi Begins Four-Day Diplomatic Tour of Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman to Boost Strategic Ties

New Delhi , December 15, 2025 : The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a four-day diplomatic tour of Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman (December 15–18, 2025), signaling India’s renewed push to deepen strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships across the Middle East and Africa. The visit reflects India’s proactive foreign policy at a time of global geopolitical uncertainty, with a focus on trade, defense cooperation, energy security, and Global South engagement.

The tour begins in Jordan, where PM Modi is visiting at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein. This marks Modi’s first official visit to the country and coincides with the 75th anniversary of India–Jordan diplomatic relations. Bilateral discussions in Amman are expected to cover regional stability in West Asia, counter-terrorism cooperation, defense ties, and expanded collaboration in trade and investment. A India–Jordan Business Forum is also scheduled, aimed at encouraging private-sector partnerships.

From Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia (December 16–17), marking his first-ever visit to the African nation. Modi is set to hold talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and will address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament. The visit underscores India’s growing engagement with Africa, emphasizing democratic values, development cooperation, and India’s leadership role in the Global South, particularly through initiatives in capacity-building, healthcare, and digital public infrastructure.

The final leg of the tour takes Modi to Oman (December 17–18) at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This will be his second visit to the Gulf nation and coincides with 70 years of India–Oman diplomatic relations. Talks are expected to focus on advancing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), strengthening defense and maritime cooperation, energy security, and enhanced engagement with the Indian diaspora.

Diplomatic sources say the tour aligns closely with India’s “Link West” policy and its expanding outreach to Africa, with potential outcomes including agreements in renewable energy, infrastructure development, defense manufacturing, and logistics connectivity. The visit is being closely watched as a key indicator of India’s strategic priorities heading into 2026.
