New Delhi — : Travelers visiting New Delhi Railway Station will now need to watch the clock. Under new parking rules, vehicles that stay longer than 15 minutes at the station will be charged a fee of ₹200. This update aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow at one of India’s busiest railway terminals.
North Railway officials confirmed the revamped parking system is being implemented near the Ajmeri Gate entrance. A tender has already been issued, and barricaded parking zones will soon return. The updated policy allows vehicles dropping off passengers to enter the main station area but limits their stay to just 8 minutes without charge.
Vehicles picking up passengers must still use designated general or VIP parking areas. If any vehicle stays beyond the free 8-minute window, it will be charged ₹50. Staying longer than 15 minutes will result in a ₹200 parking fee. For vehicles coming to pick someone up, entry through the barricaded lane is not allowed—they must wait in parking until the passenger is ready.
Previously, cab drivers avoided the ₹30 station entry fee by dropping passengers outside on busy roads. This led to traffic jams and forced many passengers to walk long distances with their luggage, sometimes missing their trains. With the new 8-minute grace period, cabs can now safely drop passengers inside the station without extra cost, solving this frequent complaint for travelers.
