According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Mahashivaratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. Lord Bholenath and Mother Parvati got married on this day. On this day the devotees of Lord Shiva keep a fast with devotion and faith and worship him with rituals. It is believed in Hinduism that on the day of Mahashivratri, Lord Bholenath sits in all the Shivlings present on the earth. That’s why the worship of Shiva done on the day of Mahashivratri gives many times more results. This auspicious day of marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati is considered to be the best day to get the blessings of Shiva-Parvati.

According to the Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi of Phalgun month will start from 8.02 pm on 17th February and end at 4.18 pm on 18th February. In such a situation, keeping in view the Udaya Tithi, this year the festival of Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
