Producer Ashwini Dutt and director Nag Ashwin have provided significant updates on Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, revealing steady progress on the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 blockbuster.

Dutt confirmed that approximately 40% of the principal shooting for the second installment was completed alongside the first film, primarily covering scenes requiring extensive sets. The remaining 60% is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with the team currently focused on post-production planning and enhanced visual effects to surpass the original.

Kamal Haasan’s antagonist Supreme Yaskin, who appeared briefly in the first part, will take center stage in the sequel. The character is set to become more powerful and physically imposing, utilizing the divine bow Gandiva—acquired by Yaskin in the first film’s climax—for key sequences.

Director Nag Ashwin has indicated that the film will feature additional grand war scenes from the Mahabharata era, delving deeper into the relationship between Lord Krishna and Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan). Reports also suggest potential new major cast members portraying figures such as the Sapta Rishi or other mythological warriors.

Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the sequel is expected to exceed the first film’s budget, with estimates placing it above ₹700 crore. While no official release date has been announced, industry sources project a mid-2027 theatrical release.

The narrative will center on Prabhas’ character Bhairava/Karna discovering his powers and protecting the unborn Kalki avatar carried by Sumati (Deepika Padukone).
