Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand — February 23, 2026
Devotees planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2026 have a visa-free option within India through the Adi Kailash and Om Parvat route in Uttarakhand, officials confirmed. While the original Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are located in Tibet and require a passport and Chinese visa, pilgrims can undertake a spiritual journey entirely inside Indian territory without international travel documents.
Thousands of devotees annually seek blessings at Mount Kailash, revered as the abode of Lord Shiva. For those unable to travel abroad, the Adi Kailash route offers a practical alternative.
Visa-Free Route Within India
The Government of Uttarakhand organizes the pilgrimage to Adi Kailash, also known as “Chhota Kailash,” and Om Parvat. The entire route falls within India, eliminating the need for a passport or visa.
The journey passes through Pithoragarh district, covering key stops such as Haldwani, Dharchula, and Gunji before reaching Adi Kailash and Om Parvat.
Officials clarified that this route does not include Tibet’s Mount Kailash but offers a spiritually significant experience for pilgrims.

Adi Kailash is considered a sacred manifestation associated with Lord Shiva and is surrounded by Himalayan landscapes that draw spiritual seekers.
Om Parvat is known for a naturally occurring snow formation resembling the sacred “Om” symbol on its peak, a sight that attracts devotees each year.
