An Indo-Canadian man has been charged with the murder of B.C.’s high-profile Red Scorpions’ gang leader Matthew Campbell, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced last Saturday. On Friday police arrested 24-year-oldJimi Sandhu, who is now facing second degree murder charges in relation to Campbell’s death, reported CTV News .On January 2, Campbell stumbled into an Enterprise Rent-a-Car location in Abbotsford with several stab wounds to his neck and pleaded for help before collapsing. The 32-year-old died less than an hour later in hospital.”Today’s announcement is the result of a fast-paced investigation that commenced on the day of Mr. Campbell’s murder and continued around the clock for the past30 days,” said IHIT superintendent Kevin Hackett. “Gang-related homicide investigations are often difficult to solve.”Hackett said the collaboration between B.C.’s anti-gang police agency, IHIT and the Abbotsford police led to this particular case being solved. Police say Campbell had taken over the Red Scorpions following the incarceration of founder and former leader Jamie Bacon. Members of the gang are accused in the2007 Surrey Six slayings, one of the biggest mass murders in the province. Police say Sandhu is known to them.
