New Delhi : The telecom subscribers in the country increased marginally to 119.9 crore in March due to the addition of new customers by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. According to the monthly customer report released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of broadband subscribers has increased to 92.4 crore. The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,19.77 crore at the end of February 2024 to 1,19.93 crore at the end of March 2024, the report said. It increased by 0.13 percent on monthly basis.
During this period, Reliance Jio added 21.4 lakh mobile customers, while Bharti Airtel added 17.5 lakh customers. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea (VIL) lost 6.8 lakh mobile customers, BSNL lost 23.5 lakh and MTNL lost 4,674 customers. The number of wireline subscribers increased to 3.37 crore by the end of March 2024 from 3.31 crore by the end of February 2024.
Reliance Jio led in adding new customers in the wireline segment and added 3.99 lakh new customers. It was followed by Bharti Airtel and added 2,06,042 new customers. 39,713 users joined VIL. The total broadband subscriber base is expected to increase to 92.40 crore by the end of March 2024. There was a monthly increase of 0.80 percent.
